Amy Winehouse

Hey! I've been really busy this past week, so apologies for the lack of posting!

Amy - 2003
Yesterday marked a year since Amy Winehouse's tragic passing, and being a massive fan of hers I thought it would be fitting to write about not only her iconic fashion but her impact on the fashion industry.

It's hard to believe Amy Winehouse's debut album "Frank" was released way back in 2003, and it's even harder to believe that this is what she looked like when she released it, despite the same 60s patterns, where is the trademark beehive? Amy was up and coming on the scene, and only just finding her look.  She appears more curvy than a lot of people would remember here, which I think was a good look on her.

Amy - 2006

2006 saw her next album "Back to Black", one of my favourite albums ever, I think this was when she was at her musical best with hits such as "Rehab", "Me and Mr Jones" and "Tears Dry on Their Own".  At this point Amy HAd really come into her own style, her beehive, eyeliner, tattoos and pout were all instantly recognizable.

Amy - 2008
In 2008 Winehouse's Mark Ronson collaboration hit "Valerie" was nominated for the "Best British Single" at the Brits, perhaps one of her most well known singles, despite being a cover, she went on to perform it at the ceremony.  2008 was a year of many appearances as she also appeared at the opening of a Fendi boutique in Paris, Glastonbury, T in the Park, V Festival and Bestival among others.  Some would say that 2008 saw the first sign of decline in Winehouse as she became romantically involved with Blake Fielder Civil, (see her "Blake" tattoo on her chest). She still has her identifiable eyeliner, beehive and tattoos, and obvious 60s influence is still evident.

Amy - 2009
2009 and 2010 were just as hectic.  Amy faced problems when her Visa applications to the US were declined leaving her unable to perform at both Coachella and the Grammys.  Meanwhile she also set up her own record company "Lionness" signing her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield. By performing backing vocals on both her goddaughters album and live appearances  for her goddaughter Amy proved that she either willing or ready to step out of limelight herself.

On the 23rd of July 2011 I was lucky enough to be in the crowd of "Ponty's Big Weekend" in Pontypridd, watching Dionne Bromfield, she performed despite being told her beloved godmother had passed away, after a twenty minute set she left Wales, her performance was outstanding, even more so knowing about Winehouse's tragic death.

The Sketches of Winehouse's Fred Perry Line
Before her death Amy had designed a range of clothing with Fred Perry, whom she often wore clothes by.  The line, I think, is amazing.  Pictured above are a few of the sketches, all of which scream Winehouse, with capri pants and plaid skirts I think that they pay perfect homage to the wonder that is Amy Winehouse.

Thank you!
